Living Medieval magazine is published online three times a year, and articles are published on our website all year round.

We consider articles covering a range of living history, reenactment and historical topics covering the period 500 - 1500 AD.

All magazine articles are around 700 words unless we request otherwise. All work must be original and not published elsewhere.

Our website features area is open for submissions all year round -just select ‘website’ in the form below. Our website articles are up to 3000 words. All work for the website must be original and not published elsewhere.

Please note Living Medieval is voluntarily run to raise the profile of living history and share the work of reenactors and historians. We currently do not make any profit, therefore we are unable to pay writers.

General article ideas include:

Crafts, fashion, experimental archaeology, food, foraging, health, hygiene, everyday life and more

Living history & reenactment

Events, people, places, little known history, minorities, historical objects, discoveries, debates etc

Applications for Staff Writer are now closed.

As a staff writer, you will have the opportunity to write an article for each edition of Living Medieval in 2025 (three editions) and up to an additional three articles for our website features area on any aspect of medieval history and/or re-enactment.

We are looking for anyone with a strong passion for medieval history and it's diverse and fascinating stories. Whether you’re a living historian that's new to writing about your hobby, or have been a historian for some or many years, everyone is given a chance to write for us and we'd love to hear from you.

Please note we are non profit so this is a voluntary, casual opportunity. All articles must be written in English.

The deadline is the 1st of February, and all applications will be responded to after this date. The first magazine article will need to be written and submitted by March 30th. Any articles for the website features area can be submitted ad-hoc.
